Freelancing
Before going full time at a design firm, I spent years doing freelance web design. Typically brought in to clean up messes, I often worked as a sub-contractor for design companies in the Baltimore/Washington area. Although I am now in a 9-5, I still do a select number of freelancing projects per year. These are hand picked projects, usually one at a time so I can give each project the attention it deserves.
I am currently accepting new projects.
Using me as your web designer you can expect a few things:
- A beautiful, clean, easy to navigate site.
- I want to make your website the best it can possibly be. Sometimes this means I might not agree with an idea you have. I’m not just a hired hand, it’s my job to be your adviser to the best practices of web design and implementation.
- I design all of my sites to validate with W3C XHTML/CSS standards and accessibility requirements for the sight impaired. This will help in everything from search engine rankings to making sure that your site works in all browsers. This is a step that many designers skip.
- I work 9-5 and have an obligation to my job. If you call me at 9:30am on a Tuesday, I might not be available to speak with you. This is why content management systems are so important– you get to control and update your own site.
- I hand pick my projects. I want to work with people who are excited by a new site, who are passionate about the site’s subject matter.
- Pricing. I’m not as expensive as a full scale design firm I’m also not going to charge the same as your co-worker’s 16 year old son Tommy.
- I’m not a backend programmer. If you’re looking for someone to help you tie in your existing proprietary .NET backend with a mySQL server, I’m probably not your guy.
I love WordPress. Stolen from their site:
WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.
I implement most designs in WordPress. This allows you to modify pages, news, posts, links– almost all content areas on your own. This means you don’t have to call me to make changes to your site every single time. It also means that once you want something live on your site, it’s there. WordPress is extremely easy to learn and manage. In about an hour I can show you all of the areas you will need to know to update your site.
If you are interested in setting up a meeting to talk about your new site, please email me.
